Charlie Finlay, Founder and Principal Consultant, has more than 20 years of experience with nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, administration and governance, He is a sought-after Executive Coach and Interim Nonprofit Leader. His fundraising expertise includes: strategic planning; donor stewardship and cultivation; moves-management, systems redesign; portfolio diversification; grants; and corporate & foundation relations.
He has become the “go-to” resource for transitional Interim Development Leadership, particularly within LGBT, HIV, youth development, and educational nonprofit sectors, His philanthropy expertise includes: mission formulation; RFP creation; application guidelines; and proposal review criteria.
A Board Source-Certified Board Governance Educator, he’s attained proficiency on a range of nonprofit governance issues, including: recruitment, engagement, and assessment. He has served on numerous Boards, Committees, and Advisory Groups, helped launch Out In Front, New York (an LGBTQ Leadership Development Program), and served as a board member, officer, and Grant Committee chair for the Stonewall Community Foundation.
As an educator, Charlie has designed and facilitated fundraising seminars, forums and board and staff retreats. He has been a featured panelist on topics related to Board Diversity, Interim Leadership, Executive Coaching, Board Relations, Board Roles and Responsibilities, and Funder/Grantee Relations.
Charlie holds an MPA in Public Administration and a BSBA in Management. He was recently certified in Executive Coaching Strategy by completing Harvard University’s first Professional Development Program in Executive Leadership Coaching. He is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
